Supported Housing Rent & Benefits Officer

Help secure appropriate rental income and ensure housing benefit claims for supported housing residents are accurate, active and well maintained.

About the role

Reporting to the Accounts Manager, you will manage exempt-accommodation rent setting, approvals and housing benefit claims for supported housing properties. You will work with managing agents, local authorities and internal teams to secure appropriate rental income and maintain accurate records and reports.

Exempt accommodation rent setting

  • Obtain the information required for rent-setting exercises from managing agents and stakeholders.
  • Prepare rent schedules and supporting documentation for supported housing properties.
  • Submit accurate and compliant applications for supported exempt accommodation rates.
  • Respond to local-authority queries and monitor applications through to decision.
  • Maintain complete records of approvals, decisions and correspondence.

Housing benefit administration

  • Prepare and submit housing benefit applications for supported-housing residents.
  • Monitor claims and follow up outstanding, suspended, underpaid or overpaid cases.
  • Resolve changes in circumstances, rent amendments and eligibility queries.
  • Check that payments match approved rent levels and service charges.
  • Maintain effective communication with local-authority benefit teams.

Data, reporting and stakeholders

  • Keep managing-partner databases and internal records accurate and complete.
  • Track applications, approvals, claim status and correspondence.
  • Produce quarterly reports and regular management updates.
  • Build positive relationships with managing agents and local-authority officers.
  • Support improvements to income recovery, compliance and reporting processes.

What we’re looking for

  • Knowledge of supported housing, exempt accommodation and housing benefit regulations.
  • Experience with local authorities, housing associations, supported-housing providers or property-management organisations.
  • Strong administration, organisation and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines independently.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and database systems.
  • Experience preparing reports and analysing operational data.
  • An undergraduate degree or diploma in Business Administration, or at least two years of relevant experience without a degree, is desirable.
